In April 2004 the three track EP Vitamins and Eyecream hit the Maltese music scene, sending ripples far beyond our shores. Both Like Feathers and Fingers drew local and international interest, landing Gravino a licensing deal with IndyHits and the Best Newcomer Award at the Bay Music Awards amongst others. In The Politics of Double Beds Niki Gravino has at once deepened and widened the musical aesthetic incipient in Vitamins and Eyecream. A wide variety of styles are deployed with a view to lure the listener into a strange and unfriendly, yet beautiful world where traditional dichotomies share very small rooms. It is a work of musical architecture and design, loosely conceptual, with strong internal links and continuities neatly balanced with an insistent sense of fragmentation, loss and fragility. In it the darkly and elegantly romantic is interrupted by paroxysms of uncompromising bad taste; existential anxiety, panic and paranoia soothed by hopeful stillness. The Politics of Doublebeds has been performed, engineered and produced by Niki Gravino in relative aloneness at Foreface. The intensity of the long and grueling process transpires in the music as a dense and moody aesthetic. In Niki Gravino’s own words, “There is a clear continuity with what I have done in the past, also because we cannot and perhaps shouldn’t try to escape the stories we inhabit. But there is also a clear departure because everything that happens to me happens to my music.”
The Politics of Double Beds has been launched in style on the 30th of November 2007 at SKY, Paceville, Malta. As promised it was an unmissable experience. Niki Gravino and the Vile Bodies performed a full set focused mainly but not exclusively around the material on the new album, alongside theatrical choreographies and visuals.
The Politics of Double Beds is presently for sale in record shops in Malta and now you can order online on http://www.nikigravino.com/order.html
We are finally ready for our first official public gig after a l ong time of needed hibernation. The band is completely new, save for Fra ncesco on Bass and - obviously- moi. I have no doubt that the songs sound better now than they ever did. Newcomers Vin, Tuomas, Mari a and Martin, as well as Francesco and myself look forward to entertain you at Rookies, Bugibba on the 31st of October . Dress up, it's Halloween.
Just a short note so you can keep it free if you want to be there.
By the way, we are not called The Vile Bodies anymore. We are still waiting to receive a new name. The unceremonious Niki Gravino a nd Band will do just fine for the time being.
Please blow this email to you friends if possible.
Here's one of our songs for you to download as a token of our appreciation. It's a radio edit of our song "When Beauty Danced". Just click the button below.

Myself, the Vile Bodies and the whole team would like to thank you for your support during the voting for the BMAs. In spite of the fact that we won no awards (at the BMAs that is, he he) we are very serene about it, also because we gave a brilliant performance. Gratitude must also go to Bay Radio for financing the show, Phaedra the coreographer, dancers Debbie (sadly, a bad turn of events made it impossible for her to participate in the actual show), Samantha and Emma, Keith and his beautiful snakes, and DJ Gianni for sparking the idea.
We also want to wish you a Merry Xmas and all that your hearts desire for the New Year. Speaking of which, 2009 will have us back into semi-hibernation. Apart from the needed break after six months of near-to-incessant gigging, we have massive amounts of pending work to sort out, which include the integration of our two new members in the live set, consolidating the band performance and structures to withstand the future challenges that we plan to present to ourselves, making a video, creating the ultimate press-pack, planning our next steps carefully (and implementing them)… not to speak of the fact that I'll be starting work on a new album. We won't hibernate completely, but if I were you I'd do my best to come to one of the three remaining gigs, also because we now have gained the confidence to blow your minds, which is really what you want from us;)
Our last gig in the stream. Tickets cost €40 each and it's going to be an open-bar. Our brothers Sixth Simfoni will be performing too. You can contact me directly on Facebook or Myspace. It's almost sold-out so don't postpone too much.
Yesterday it was a night to remember for Niki Gravino and the Vile Bodies. For those that weren't at the MFCC yesterday or didn't hear it yet: As you all knew Niki Gravino was nominated for 6 awards at The Coca Cola Malta Music Awards 2008...... well we were awarded with 5 i.e. Best image; Best CD Design; Best Song; Best Male Artist and Best song writer.
Great appreciation goes to the organisation of the Malta Music Awards especially the judges for honouring my work in the presence of our friends, fans and colleagues. Thanks to all of you guys that appreciated and will keep on appreciating our music. I see these awards not so much as a personal endorsement but in fact as a reason for me and the band to take up the challenge to make music with a higher purpose that goes beyond simple entertainment.
